Love Bites for April 2012

Birthday Cake! Yum!

I love April! April, being my birthday month, I got to spend my birthday by taking a day off work, and enjoying a celebratory dinner out with my favourite people. Later that week, I was taken out for a birthday lunch to Paganellis by my awesome co-workers, followed by a delicious birthday cake back at the office! Yum.

Movies – I was happy to finally see the “Hunger Games” after finishing the book a year ago. I thought it was well done and I’m looking forward to whenever the next one comes out! And, although it’s a little off-season, we watched “A Very Harold and Kumar Christmas” which was HILARIOUS. I’m a sucker for stupid, childish humour sometimes 🙂

Books – I stumbled on a couple of really great books this month including…

I love this book!

Delicacy: A Novel” by David Foenkinos – I read a book review on this novel and decided to give it a try. What I discovered was a very heart-warming, sweet, and even comical story about a woman who finds love again, with an unexpected candidate, a few years after her husband’s unexpected death. The story is written in a quirky, off-beat kind of way that makes you want to keep reading…right up until its touching conclusion. I highly recommend this book!

I also enjoyed the book “On the Island” by Tracey Garvis-Graves. I wrote a book review blog post about this book which you can read right over here!

Choco Crepes!

Yummies – I was sad to discover my favourite Crepe restaurant “I Feel Like Crepe” in Little Italy, Toronto has shut down. But I may have found its replacement. I tried out Chococrepe on Queen West and had a yummy meal. I ordered the “Mushroom Delight” crepe for dinner and the “Berry Banana” (Strawberry, Banana, with dark and white chocolate) for dessert. Another yummy meal I enjoyed this month was a Cheese Fondue adventure with my work friends at the Bier Markt on The Esplanade in Toronto. It was Fondu-licious!!

TV – OMG…Nurse Jackie is back; Season 4. And I’m loving it so far… I’ve also discovered the new show on HBO called Girls! It’s hilarious and very well done. Loving that one too. Oh…and I’m a little late to the party, but my sweet boyfriend picked up Mad Men Season 1 for me on Blue Ray and I’m really into that now, too!

I Love ART!! – As a member of the Art Gallery of Ontario, I had the opportunity to preview the newest exhibit: Picasso: Masterpieces from the Musee National Picasso, Paris. The exhibit features art work (paintings, and sculptures) from Picasso’s private collection, and spans his entire life. This particular collection has been on tour all over the world including Madrid, Tokyo, Moscow and  Sydney. Toronto is the final, and only Canadian stop, on the tour before it goes back to its home in Paris. Picasso’s work is fascinating, beautiful, dark, disturbing and sometimes overwhelming. He was an artist that lived well into his eighties and enjoyed the opportunity to enjoy a successful art career while he was still alive. It was very interesting to watch the progression of his work as he aged, while walking through the exhibit from start to finish. There’s a lot of art to look at; the exhibit boasts 147 pieces! So give yourself lots of time to experience it. But don’t wait too long, the exhibit goes until August 2012.

Music – Another fun adventure this month was going to see Sheena Easton in concert at the Rose Theatre in Brampton. Growing up as a child of the 80’s, I was a fan of her songs. It was a thrill to see Sheena belt out her hits like “Morning Train” and “For Your Eyes Only”. And I was delighted to hear how strong her voice is, and how great her band was. It really seemed like she was having fun on stage and I certainly had fun reminiscing!

And that’s about it for April! See you in a month! 🙂
